The vision behind Rappo Phygital was clear: create an app that enhances the mall-going experience by seamlessly integrating digital rewards and services. Users needed a way to discover brands, order directly from stores, leave reviews, and even manage mall services like parking—all from their smartphones.

A key focus was on instant gratification. In an era where users expect immediate rewards, we aimed to build a system that satisfied this demand while fostering loyalty through a well-crafted gamification system.

The project began with a deep dive into user behaviors and preferences. We conducted surveys and interviews with frequent mall-goers to understand what would make their shopping experience more engaging and enjoyable. One common theme emerged: users loved the idea of earning rewards for their actions, whether it was for visiting a store, making a purchase, or simply exploring the mall.

Additionally, users expressed a desire for convenience—whether it was finding information about mall services, ordering from brands directly through the app, or managing parking. These insights became the foundation for the features we would later develop.

Designing the Gamification System

At the heart of Rappo Phygital was the gamification system. I began by mapping out how users could earn points, badges, and rewards. The challenge was to create a system that was both rewarding and motivating without feeling overwhelming.

The gamification elements were carefully crafted to ensure that users would feel a sense of achievement at every step. Points could be earned for a variety of actions, such as visiting a store, scanning a QR code, making a purchase, or leaving a review. Badges were awarded for completing specific challenges, such as visiting multiple stores in a day or making a certain number of purchases.

The rewards system was designed to be flexible, offering users the ability to redeem points for discounts, free items, or exclusive offers from their favorite brands. This not only incentivized users to engage with the app regularly but also encouraged repeat visits to the mall.

The discovery feature was designed to help users easily find malls and brands. I focused on creating a clean and simple interface where users could search for stores, browse categories, and access detailed information about each brand.

For the ordering feature, the goal was to make the process as seamless as possible. Users could browse through products, place orders directly through the app, and even schedule pickups or deliveries. This feature was integrated with the rewards system, allowing users to earn points with every purchase.

To enhance convenience, the app also included features for accessing mall services. Users could find information on parking availability, reserve spots, and even pay for parking—all from within the app. Additionally, the app allowed users to leave reviews and feedback, helping others make informed decisions while earning more points in the process.

Prototyping was a crucial phase in the development of Rappo Phygital. I created high-fidelity prototypes using Figma, which allowed us to test the app's functionality and gather feedback from real users.

User testing revealed that the gamification elements were highly engaging. Testers enjoyed earning points and badges, and many expressed excitement about the rewards system. However, feedback also indicated a need for clearer navigation and more streamlined processes for ordering and managing services.

In response, I refined the user interface to make navigation more intuitive and simplified the steps required to complete key actions. These adjustments ensured that users could easily access the app's features without feeling overwhelmed.

The final design of Rappo Phygital was a polished, user-friendly app that offered a comprehensive and engaging mall experience. The seamless integration of gamification with practical features like ordering, reviews, and mall services set it apart from other retail apps.

Upon launch, Rappo Phygital received positive feedback from both users and mall operators. Users appreciated the instant gratification provided by the rewards system, while mall operators saw increased foot traffic and engagement.

By focusing on instant gratification and user engagement, we were able to create a platform that not only enhanced the retail experience but also fostered loyalty among users.
